About Sweet Bite

Sweet Bite is a home-based bakery that has grown out of my love of baking and desire to create edible art for family and friends. While I have found a niche making special occasion cakes for various celebrations including weddings, baby showers, and birthdays; I am happy to bake pies, pastries, and any other sweet or savory treat your heart desires. I love to try new recipes and challenge myself with fun designs. While my cakes are pretty to look at, I strive to make them taste even better using quality ingredients! I hope you enjoy reading my blog and seeing what new sweet treat I have created in my kitchen!

A full month of weddings

Wow, May was a busy month in my cake making world! It started May 4th with 450 cake balls for a good friend and old coworker, Cory and her now husband Kory. Thanks to my husband, Scott for lending a hand rolling cake balls! I made 3 flavors of cake balls which were coconut, carrot cake, and orange chocolate. I dipped them in Ghirardelli melting wafers. I think I found my preferred dipping chocolate. I loved how they displayed the cake balls using crates and surrounded by dollies and fresh flowers. It was a perfect display for a country wedding at The Red Barn in Weston, Missouri.

The next weekend, my Mom and I drove to Des Moines to put together a wedding cake for our friends Lindsay and Jordan. What a fun cake to make! The was three flavors - white, dark chocolate, and lemon. The cake was topped with roses and a variety of succulents.

My helpers!

To round out the month I made a small wedding cake at the end of the month. It was a simple 3-tiered square cake. Each tier had dark grey ribbon wrapped around the bottom half of the tier. The bride topped it off with fresh flowers. I'll post pictures once I get some from the bride. It was a busy but fun month!

I want a cooking party!

Today I finished what could be my favorite birthday cake to date! Of course I love cooking and baking so I love the idea of a cooking themed birthday party. Why didn't my Mom think of that?!?! It was fun to create kitchen utensils and a couple strawberries and a tomato out of marzipan. The mushrooms and chef's hat are made out of fondant with some gum paste added to help them hold their shape. I didn't dream up the idea on my own, but I think it's super cute!

Bayblade birthday cake

Last weekend I made this cake for Huston's 7th birthday. I didn't have any idea what Bayblades were before I made the cake and I'm not sure I really understand what they are after making the cake. I do know it involved lots of red food color to make the red fondant but I was happy it didn't turn out pink. Happy birthday Huston! I hope you enjoyed it.

NYE Wedding

One of my best friends married her best friend on New Year's Eve. It was a lovely ceremony at a small event space in Downtown Kansas City. They are having a bigger reception this summer but they wanted a cake for a small gathering to ring in the new year with friends and family. The bride, Chelsea, loves blue so this is what I came up with.

It's not exactly like Chelsea's 30th birthday cake but  close! Congratulations Chelsea and Tim!
